Renovation Fund |
The goal of the project is to renovate the bar room and adjacent spaces on the first floor of Phi Kappa Theta Fraternity. As you may remember, unlike other fraternities at Lehigh, Phi Kap does not have a basement or ancillary space for social gathering and our current bar room occupies 1/3 of the usable ground floor of our chapter house. Over the years, with the shifting social atmosphere on campus, the bar has become grossly under utilized and is not flexible to accommodate any other function. As we compete yearly with alternative housing options, the renovations will not only enhance the daily quality of life for the Brotherhood but also aid in attracting and retaining new members.
The project will remove the existing bar and interior finishes, relocate and reduce the physical bar space and increase the gathering area as a flexible lounge. Viewing cabinets behind the bar will also returns the history and tradition of displaying Brother’s Mugs as a physical and ideological symbol of our Brotherhood and unity. New flooring, wood wainscoting, trim and paint will be added to match similar historic details found in adjacent spaces. Through the use of color and materials, the renovations will serve to unify the existing Dining Room and Chapter Room with the new Bar and Lounge into a single cohesive plan that is both respectful of the design history at Phi Kap and mindful of the Brotherhood’s modern needs.
